Indo – US Diabetes Summit
Dr. Anoop Misra and the DFI team participated in the Indo – US Diabetes Summit held at AIIMS on 14-15 February 2009.
Nutrition Workshops for School Children
Nutrition Workshop for schoolchildren was held in various Gurgaon Schools on 4 February 2009 in association with Ms. Veena Eagleton, IAS.
DFI DMA CME
DFI in association with Delhi Medical Association jointly organized a day-long CME on 18 January 2008 at DMA. The CME titled “Newer Concepts in Diagnosis, Monitoring and Management of Obesity, Lipids and Diabetes Mellitus”. The CME was primarily coordinated by Dr. Anoop Misra (Director and Head, Department of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Fortis Hospitals) and Dr Ashwini Dalmiya (Hony. State Secretary, DMA), with Dr Jasjeet S Wasir (Consultant Department of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Fortis Hospitals) as the organizing secretary. The CME was a grand success as it was attended by over 250 delegates from all over North India and the participating faculty included nationally and internationally renowned experts in the field of nutrition, exercise, obesity, lipid disorders, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and diabetic foot experts.
Health Camps 2008 – First Quarter - 2009
DFI is committed towards spreading awareness about Diabetes and Obesity and the measures that can be taken to counter them through lifestyle changes, correct nutrition and exercise. As a part of an ongoing mission, we create awareness about the perils of obesity and early onset of Type II diabetes, through various health camps to educate people to take corrective measures by making lifestyle changes.
These health camps were held at school premises, community centers and club premises. Our team consisted of expert medical professionals, nutritionists and social workers. We are disseminating educational material and low calorie recipes inlocal language.
Main features of camp:
Creating awareness; Free health check-up (blood pressure, calculation of body mass index
etc.); Free consultation by doctor; Free lifestyle counselling ; Free fasting / random blood glucose test ; Free refreshment
We have been successfully conducting these camps in New Delhi's - Resident Welfare Associations, Sadik Nagar, Friend’s club, Safdarjung club, Resident Welfare Association, Yusuf Sarai and local community centres - making our effort the largest campaign against Obesity, Diabetes and related disorders in India.

Consensus Guidelines of Obesity, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases
A Press Conference was held on 25 November 2008 at the India International Centre, to release the Consensus Guidelines of Obesity, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases arrived at by the team of experts at the Obesity Summit, before a large group of media persons.
Obesity & Metabolic Summit
Minimal Access, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Centre, Sir Ganga Ram Hosiptal, New Delhi
and DFI jointly organized a two-day long summit on Obesity & Metabolic diseases on the 15th - 16th November 2008 at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi titled “Consensus in Diagnosis, Management of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.”
The event was primarily coordinated by Dr. Pradeep Chowbey, Director, Minimal Access, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Centre, Sir Ganga Ram Hosiptal, New Delhi and Dr. Anoop Misra (Director and Head, Department of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Fortis Hospitals, and Director, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, DFI and Dr. B.M.Makkar, Diabetologist, & Obesity specialist, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute,)
The summit was endorsed by OSSI - Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of India, Ministry of Health, Government of India, AARO – All India Association for Advancing research in Obesity.
The summit was a grand success as it was attended by over 150 delegates from pan india and the participating delegates included nationally and internationally renowned experts in the field of Obesity, Diabetes & Metabolic diseases, nutrition & exercise experts and clinicians.
The Consensus in Diagnosis, Management of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome brought to light new parameters in measurement of BMI for Asians, particularly Indians and the findings were published in JAPI(Journal of Association of Physicians of India www.japi.org March 2009 issue).

MARG – THE PATH study
12 Health Camps were organized by DFI at various Delhi Schools under the MARG – THE PATH study.
Health Effects of Pistachios on Cardiovascular Factors
A research study in India on the “ Health Effects of Pistachios on Cardiovascular Factors” conducted by DFI was launched on 13 August 2008 as part of its tie-up with Paramount Farms California Pistachios, at the Longchamps Room, Hotel Taj Mahal, New Delhi. This was followed by a press conference addressed by Dr. Anoop Misra of DFI, Dr. Ravi Kasliwal of Global Healthcare Ltd. and Mr. Dominic Engels of Paramount Farms.
PANKH - ‘Walk to Prevent Diabetes, Obesity and Heart Disease’
- A unique initiative called ‘PANKH—Lets Fly High,’
in collaboration with our media partners Via Media (www.viamediahealth.net)
to support financially underprivileged juvenile diabetic children was
organized on 25th August, 2007, in which more than 3000 people including
schoolchildren from over a dozen schools in Delhi, participated in the
‘Walk to Prevent Diabetes, Obesity and Heart Disease’.

Dr. Anoop Misra attended the Annual Meeting of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, affiliated to the Bangladesh Diabetic Association (www.dab-bd.org/aboutbird.htm) on 13 December, 2007.
Dr. Anoop Misra gave a Public Health Lecture and conducted an open house session on "Prevention and Management of Diabetes, Obesity and Heart Disease" under the aegis of DFI and Diabetes Education Forum, Allahabad, at the Boys' High School Allahabad on 7 December, 2007.
Project MARG, under the aegis of DFI, with financial support from World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark, launched its 'Nutrition and Health Awareness Program for Uttaranchal' on 24-25 November, 2007 at Dehradun, at a function organised by the Eco Watch Society, Dehradun.
